Is the combination of PAM and PAC more effective?

In sewage treatment, using a water purifying agent alone often fails to achieve the effect. Polyacrylamide (PAM) and polyaluminum chloride (PAC) are often used together in the water treatment process. They each have different characteristics and functions. Used together to produce better processing results.

1. Polyaluminum chloride (PAC):

- Main function is as coagulant.

- It can effectively neutralize the charge of suspended particles in water, causing the particles to aggregate to form larger flocs, which facilitates sedimentation and filtration.

- Suitable for various water quality conditions and has good effect on removing turbidity, color and organic matter.

2. Polyacrylamide (PAM):

- Main function is as flocculant or coagulant aid.

- Can enhance the strength and volume of floc, making it easier to separate from water.

- There are different types such as anionic, cationic and non-ionic, and you can choose the appropriate type according to your specific water treatment needs.

The effect of using together

1. Enhance coagulation effect: The combined use of PAC and PAM can significantly improve the coagulation effect. PAC first neutralizes the suspended particles in the water to form preliminary flocs, and PAM further enhances the strength and volume of the flocs through bridging and adsorption, making them easier to settle and remove.

2. Improve treatment efficiency: Using a single PAC or PAM may not achieve the best treatment effect, but a combination of the two can give full play to their respective advantages, improve treatment efficiency, shorten reaction time, reduce the dosage of chemicals, thereby reducing treatment costs.

3. Improve water quality: Combined use can more effectively remove suspended solids, turbidity and organic matter in the water, and improve the transparency and purity of the effluent water quality.

Precautions in Practical Application

1. Adding sequence: Usually PAC is added first for preliminary coagulation, and then PAM is added for flocculation, so as to maximize the synergy between the two.

2. Dosage control: The dosage of PAC and PAM needs to be adjusted according to water quality conditions and treatment needs to avoid waste and side effects caused by excessive use.

3. Water quality monitoring: Water quality monitoring should be carried out during use, and the dosage of chemicals should be adjusted in a timely manner to ensure the treatment effect and effluent quality.

In short, the combined use of polyacrylamide and polyaluminum chloride can significantly improve the water treatment effect, but the specific dosage and usage method need to be adjusted according to the actual situation.
