How to add calcium chloride to your swimming pool?

To keep pool water healthy and safe, the water must always maintain the proper balance of alkalinity, acidity, and calcium hardness. As the environment changes, it affects the pool water. Adding calcium chloride to your pool maintains calcium hardness.

But adding calcium isn’t as simple as it sounds…you can’t just throw it into the pool. like any other dry chemical, calcium chloride should be pre-dissolved in the bucket before adding to the pool. Let us explain how to add calcium chloride to your swimming pool.

You will need:

Reliable test kit for measuring calcium hardness

a plastic bucket

Safety equipment – glasses and gloves

Something for stirring – such as a wooden paint stirrer

Dry measuring cup or bucket – dose appropriately. Don’t cut corners.

step 1

Test the calcium hardness of your pool water and refill water. Record the results. Bring calcium chloride and the above items to the pool, wearing goggles and gloves.

Step 2

Submerge the bucket into the pool until it is about 3/4 full. Slowly pour the measured amount of calcium chloride into the bucket. If your dose exceeds the bucket’s capacity, you will need to repeat these steps or use multiple buckets. We strongly recommend that you judge how much calcium a bucket can hold.

Be careful with high temperatures. Safety glasses and gloves are important to avoid accidental burns. It may be helpful to place a bucket in the water to help cool it down.

Step 3

Stir until calcium chloride is completely dissolved. Pour undissolved calcium into your pool and it will seep into the bottom and burn the surface, leaving a mark.

Step 4

Slowly pour the completely dissolved calcium chloride into the pool. Pour about half a bucket, then pour in fresh pool water, stir again, and pour in slowly. This helps regulate the water temperature and also gives you more time to make sure everything is dissolved. Add calcium in the right way and it works wonders.

Notice:

Don’t throw calcium chloride directly into the swimming pool. It takes time to dissolve. Never pour calcium directly into a skimmer or drain. This is a very bad idea and can damage your pool equipment and filter. Calcium chloride does not dissolve in the same way as dry acids, sodium bicarbonate, or non-chlorine shock agents, calcium chloride releases a large amount of heat. If you add calcium in the right way, you won’t have a problem.
